This unusual cricket cage measures inches. Size: 2 x 1 inch diameter - for baby crickets!. This insect symbolises a fighting spirit - and in Imperial China children would shake them out of the trees to train for cricket fights.
This beautiful little cage was made by hand in Southern China - the same as they have for hundreds of years. The cricket's gentle chirping noises are thought to calm the mind and soothe the spirit. Crickets live for years, and get larger and larger, when they must be put into larger cages. The picture show three bars slid open to allow the cricket in.
